Brand Development – Babkala
Creating a joyful brand identity rooted in cultural nostalgia and culinary charm
Babkala is a neighborhood Nosherei (Yiddish for “a place to eat or snack”), serving specialty snacks, appetizers, and imported delights. Inspired by the rich traditions of European Jewish cuisine with a modern twist of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influence, the brand called for an identity that was both comforting and vibrant.
As the sole designer, I led the full creative development of the brand, including:
• Naming exploration and logo concepting (initial working name: Nosh)
• Designing a variety of bold, playful, and typographic logo explorations
• Creating an initial brand style guide with typefaces, color palettes, graphic patterns, and packaging ideas
• Translating cultural heritage into a visual language that’s both nostalgic and contemporary
This project was a deep dive into storytelling through design, combining warmth, humor, and a distinct voice for a unique food concept.
